MonicaMeet the owner, Monica Mugavero.

I started my company May 1998. I come from a long line of entrepreneurs and after college I moved back to Peoria to go to work for a small graphic arts studio called We Can Imagine founded by my mother and a partner. They had just begun the process of becoming a licensed ASI-listed distributor of promotional products. What started out as a part-time receptionist position soon became a full-time office management position. The business was eventually sold and I decided to return to school full-time as an accounting major. After 3 years, I returned to We Can Imagine in the newly created position of “Business Manager”. My new employer had expanded the business to include media planning and placement so it could be operated as a full-service advertising agency. After a few years, I decided to try my hand at sales. Because I was able to build a rapport with my clients, I was able to build my clientele very quickly and because my attention to detail was unmatched, I was able to retain them indefinitely. In 1998, I decided it was time to start my own business and in 2002 I incorporated. In July of 2011, due to many life changes, I chose to close the corporation, move locations, change my business structure, and change my business name. I continue to run it as Breakthru Promotions today. In August of 2006 my fiancée and business manager suffered a very serious stroke which forever changed both of our lives. The stroke left him unable to work and I have been his caregiver throughout his post-stroke journey. I believe our experiences have made me an even better salesperson – many of my clients were related to the healthcare industry in one form or another and even though I was “book smart” before, now I’ve lived it and understand their businesses from a totally different viewpoint. Some of my present and past memberships include: Business Leadership Network (3 terms as treasurer, 1 as president) Central Illinois Business Leadership Network (3 terms as secretary) Soroptimist International of the Peoria Area (6 terms as treasurer) Healthcare Resources Network (4 terms as treasurer and 1 term as secretary) and Infinite Success (secretary). Some of the awards I have received include: Voted one of the top 25 Women in Leadership in the Peoria Area, Illinois Central College Small Business Development Program Business Leadership Award, American Diabetes Association Shining Star Award, and BNI Noteable Networker Awards. My favorite charities include Retreat & Refresh Stroke Camp/United Stroke Alliance and Pets for Seniors.
